The Puzzle; I Still Don’t Feel Better!

You’ve cleaned up your diet, increased water and are exercising several times a week and you still don’t feel any better.
You may wonder and worry ….In talking with your family, they tell you it’s your thyroid. You consult the internet and it says it’s your adrenal glands and maybe your hypothalamus. Your TV says it’s deficient reproductive hormones and you better get replacement today! You worry about diabetes because your doctor said your HA1C was a little elevated at your last annual exam.

All these ‘leads’ point to your endocrine system but they are not diagnostic at least at this juncture. Let’s take a look at this very important interdependent system of your body and what steps to take to get to the bottom of any mysterious concerns.

Five players-thyroid, hypothalamus, adrenal, pancreas, reproductive make up the endocrine system that produce hormone messengers and keep everything running smoothly.

The interdependence of these five players is like a 5 pointed star. If you ever played string puzzles you know you have to keep even outward pressure on the points to make a perfect 5 pointed star. As such, everything works fine when every contributor in the endocr5 point star.jpgine system pulls its weight and does it’s job. A weak or dysfunctional player in this system will make everyone else work harder and eventually there could be multiple systems in need of support.

In the office getting a good history of your health and any symptoms you have had or are having helps your doctor ask the right questions, do labs and exams to come up with the correct diagnosis. It’s better to do this when you are first concerned and before trying supplements or medications that have not been expressly ordered for you. In this way the diagnostic picture is not obscured.

There’s a lot to learn and don’t be surprised if the exams, labs and therapeutic plan goes farther then just to an end of medicating for an endocrine deficiency.  The endocrine system is just one part, albeit an important part of the holographic puzzle that makes you tick. The cardiac, respiratory, neurological, immune and digestive systems interconnect and depend on the endocrine system. Consideration and assessments should be made that look at the whole person and how to get and keep you in top form.

Any job is a little easier when everyone chips in. It’s like that for your endocrine system and for every part of you.
